4 Work At Home Pros And Cons
In this article I will showing you 4 work at home pros and cons to help you make the best decision possible.
Working at home can be advantageous but also disadvantageous.
Many now a days are seeking to find a lucrative job with no effort, thinking that working from home is an easy way to make money without much effort.
1. Self Discipline
The one thing I personally find hard from all the challenges of working from home, is self discipline.
It’s easy to get into the habit of waking up late by hitting the snooze button. Waking up late will most likely slow down your work productivity.
Self discipline is also needed in many other aspects such as, not chatting while working, or checking videos, emails and so on…
Successful people are the ones who wake up early. You should set your alarm and commit to it.
Take all distractions away from your work space including your cell phone or anything that could distract you from accomplishing your work. Take your work at home seriously just like you were working in an office for someone else.
Lack of motivation I would say, is the main reason why people do not succeed at working from home. Since the work place is also the home, someone might get the feeling he’s always at work, which can bring him to a burnout.
You should plan on working normal hours by focusing on work and when work hours are over, close down everything that is related to work, this way you separate work from home.
I know many successful entrepreneurs including myself, listen to motivators each day for 15 to 30 minutes, such as Tony Robbins my favorite.
3. Unhealthy Lifestyle
Working from home can be hard on your health.
What do I mean by that?
Some people will stay in bed while working from their laptop which can cause much harm to your body. Back pain, lack of blood circulation to name just a couple.
Not having the right equipment can also be a factor. For example, not having the proper office chair or a standing desk to alternate between standing and sitting. Adding to the list, not taking time to go outside for exercise or just to get a bit of sun and fresh air.
As a work at home entrepreneur, I look for sunny days to go to the park and work from there. You don’t always need internet to work from home, like writing articles, planning your week an so on.
4. No Interaction
Depending for what company you work for, you might have to interact with your boss once in a while, but beside that, you will probably be alone in your home.
You might miss the conversation with co-workers you used to have at breaks and lunch.
You can always work in a park on sunny summer days or even bring your laptop and work from a coffee shop. Most of them now a days have wi-fi.
These are the 4 work at home cons, now let’s move on to the pros.
1. No More Commute
Think of the time you will save from working from home! No more time wasted in traffic or waiting at a bus stop.
Money you will save too. No need of an extra car, gas for the week, car insurance, winter tires… If you take the bus, no more bus pass expenses, office clothes and the list goes on.
2. Tax Advantages
By working from home, you can deduct many parts of your home as an office expense. Depending where you are in the world, you can deduct electricity bills, phone bills, repair and maintenance bills of your house.
3. Work On Your Own Terms
What I mean by that is that you can decide the time you start and finish your work. Decide what you feel like working on that day.
This means less pressure and less stress of having a boss looking over your shoulder through the day.
That includes being more flexible in terms of personal appointments. You can schedule any personal appointments during day time without having to excuse yourself to anyone.
4. More Time With Your Kids
This is one of my favorite reasons why I love working from home, specially if you are a mom. You can raise your kids while working. The reason of having kids is to raise them the way you want them to be as an adult. You can even plan on having home schooling for them. This can be all done with a good plan and a willing heart. It’s worth it!
These are the 4 work at home pros and cons. There are many more pros of working from home but I limited myself to just four.
